January 2017: 45 Years Malta - China Relations |

A discussion "45 Years Malta - China
Relations" was organised by the Malta China Friendship Society at
the Auditorium of the University of Malta Campus in Valletta. The
panel was composed of Dr Michael Frendo, Dr Alex Sciberras Trigona
and Mr Reno Calleja. The discussion, which was well attended, dealt
with the history of the political development and on the events
which evolved during these past 45 years. The Moderator was Dr
Anthony Degiovanni.

The lecture Ancient Chinese
Civilization by Martin Azzopardi organised by the Malta China
Friendship Society on Wednesday 5th April was very well attended by
a very good audience. Martin Azzopardi managed to give a detailed
explanation about old Chinese Civilizations and promised to make a
continuation of it, since time did not permit to cover all in one
lecture.
Well done to Martin Azzopardi who managed to keep the audience's
attention throughout. |

May 2017: Lecture - Penjing -
The Roots of Bonsai - 3D Poetry |

With his love and
enthusiasm for his beautiful arrangements, Joseph Felix Cachia
explained the origins of Bonsai and the difference between Bonsai
and Penjing. The lecture was organised by the Malta China Friendship
Society at the China Cultural Centre and was well attended.

May 2017: High Delegation
from China hosted by the MCFS |

Mme Li Xiaolin
President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with
Foreign Countries together with a high level Delegation ended a two
day visit to Malta with a farewell dinner hosted by the Malta China
Friendship Society at the Blue Elephant Restaurant at the Hilton
Hotel. During her stay Mme Li Xiaolin met the President of the
Republic H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and the Prime Minister Dr
Joseph Muscat. She was invited to Malta by the President of the
Malta China Friendship Society Mr Reno Calleja. |

October 2017: Two Chinese
workers commemorated in Malta |

In
a moving ceremony held at the Adolorata Cemetery last Saturday, a
large number
of Chinese paid homage to Mr. Xu Huizhong and Mr. Gu Yanzhao, two
Chinese engineers who died while working on the Red China dock in
1979. The former died tragically at the Dock when a large block of
concrete killed him on the spot. Gu Yanzhao died of natural causes
while still working on the Dock. The Minister of Finance, Dr Edward
Scicluna and the
Chinese Ambassador to Malta H.E. Mr Jiang Jiang made speeches for
the occasion. The President of the Malta China Friendship
Society, former Minister Reno Calleja was one of several dignitaries
who laid a wreath on the tombs of these two Chinese engineers. |

Ming Dynasty |

The Malta China Friendship Society would like to
thank Martin Azzopardi for the lecture The Ming Dynasty on Tuesday
24th October at the Chinese Cultural Centre, which was well
attended. Martin Azzopardi, who has China at heart, described the
Ming Dynasty in great detail, which kept the audience attention
throughout the talk |

Funerary Customs in China |

The Malta China Friendship Society would like to
thank Stephen Cachia for the interesting and very well attended
lecture entitled FUNERARY CUSTOMS IN CHINA, which was held at the
Chinese Cultural Centre, Valletta.
Stephen managed to explain chronologically the
interesting customs related to the passing of different categories
of people in Chinese Society through the ages until today. |
