Courtesy Visit

On the
occasion of the 42nd Anniversary of Malta-China Relations
the Executive Committee of the Malta China Friendship Society paid a
courtesy visit to H.E. Mr Cai Jinbiao, Ambassador to China in Malta
at his residence. The President of the Society, Mr Reno Calleja
presented H.E. with a plaque to commemorate the event and a cake
decorated for the occasion. Various aspects of how to further
strengthen relations were discussed during the visit. |

President awarded White Magnolia

In an impressive ceremony today the 8th of September
at the famous Shangri La Hotel of Shanghai, former Labour Minister
Mr. Reno Calleja was awarded The White Magnolia Prize. This award
was conferred to Mr.Calleja by Mr.Zhang Xiosong, Director of
Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office. Mr.Calleja was the only one of
three foreigners living outside Shanghai awarded this prestigious
prize. Director Zhang stated that the medal was being conferred on
Mr Calleja in appreciation of his valuable support to Shanghai
development and outstanding contribution to the friendly relations
between Shanghai and Malta. |

Reunion with Zhai Mo |

While on a visit to Beijing, former Minister Reno
Calleja took the opportunity to meet the legendary sailor Zhai Mo,
who last month was in Malta while retracing the Maritime Silk Road.
Zhai Mo thanked Mr Calleja for his work to ensure
that his visit to Malta will be, in his words ‘’special’’. He
asked him to thank former Ambassador Dr Clifford Borg Marks, the
Ministry of Tourism and Foreign Affairs for the welcome they gave
him in Malta. During the meeting
with Zhai Mo, Mr. Calleja met a number of potential investors whom
Mr Mo encouraged to look at Malta as an investment base. |

The Beijing Soul
Inspiring Art Troupe who were accompanied by a delegation from China
led by the philanthropist Na Yuan, performed at the Namaste Hall of
the Immaculate Conception School in Tarxien. Later, Na Yuan
presented 50 of her own paintings to the President of Malta, H.E.
Marie Louise Coleiro Preca during a meeting at San Anton Palace.
The paintings were a donation to the Community Chest Fund.
