Activities of the MCFS 2009
 

April 2009:

Visit by a delegation from the Shanghai's People's Friendship Association consisting of Mr. Wang Xiaoshu, Executive Vice President, Mr. Yu Jianhao, secretary general, Mr. Yan Weixiang, division director and Ms. Tian Tian who acted as an interpreter.

June 2009:

Opening of an Exhibition with paintings by Chinese artist Na Yuan and Maltese artist Joseph Barbara at The Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana.  The MCFS also organised various visits for Na Yuan, amongst which were visits to the Palace in Valletta, where she met the President of Malta. H.E. Dr. George Abela and to the Malta Tourism Authority, where she met Parliamentary Secretary, the Hon. Dr. Mario DeMarco and President Emeritus Dr Guido DeMarco.

August 2009:

The Malta-China Friendship Society in collaboration with the Local Council of Santa Lucia screened with great success the film "Nanking" at the Garden of Serenity in Santa Lucija.  About 150 persons attended. 

Nanking (Chinese: 南京) is a 2007 documentary film about the 1937 Nanking massacre committed by the Japanese army in the former capital city of China, Nanjing.  The film is based on letters and diaries from the era, as well as archive footage and interviews with surviving victims and perpetrators of the massacre.

The President of the MCFS, Mr Reno Calleja receiving a gift from the Mayor, Mr Frederick Cutajar in appreciation of the long standing support between the Local Council and our Association.

September 2009:

Ms Monica Demanuele was awarded a Certificate of Excellence after being given an Honourable Mention in the Shanghai International Senior Citizens Photographic Exhibition 2008 entitled "A Harmonious World As We See It".

The Malta China Friendship Society was responsible for promoting this Exhibition amongst Maltese nationals.  Several entries were submitted for this Competition through our Society.

 
September 2009:

A delegation from the Malta China Friendship Society made up of Mr Reno Calleja, Mrs Doreen Sammut, Mr Anthony DeGiovanni and Mr Teddy Calleja, had several meetings in China during which bilateral activities and cooperation agreements were discussed.  These meetings included one with Ms Li Xing,Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the China Daily and Mr Roy Wang, from the Foreign Affairs & Communications Department of the same Newspaper (see photos below),

with Ms Liu Xianlian, Executive Vice-President of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (see photos below),

with Mr Chen Haosu, Chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and with Mr Wang Xaioshu, Executive Vice-President of the Shanghai Friendship Association with Foreign Countries (see below).

 

September 2009:

The Organising Committee of the Shanghai Youths Summer Camp 2009 chose a design by artist Joseph Barbara, Assistant Financial Secretary of the MCFS to be used on the official T-Shirts printed for the this international event.
